Early years

SIH takes great pride in the excellence of our Early Years section. Our Early Years programme has received international acclaim for its exceptional care for children. We are honoured to be the first whole school with a nursery in Thailand to be awarded the 'Quality Counts' mark at the Platinum level by the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA). This prestigious recognition signifies the highest standards of care and education. SIH Early Years is only the second Early Years/Nursery section to achieve this remarkable distinction.

From the age of 2, we integrate the Oxford International Curriculum (OIC) alongside the UK National Curriculum Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The OIC encourages inquiry-based learning, critical thinking and a global perspective, offering children a unique blend of academic and personal development.

The curriculum in our Early Years programme is a harmonious blend of the EYFS and the OIC, emphasising children’s exploration and inquiry. The EYFS focuses on seven key areas of learning and development, fostering interconnected growth. These key areas ignite children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, building their capacity to learn, form relationships, and thrive.

Our holistic programme empowers children to take control of their own learning environment. By incorporating play and inquiry, we create an atmosphere that encourages self-directed exploration. This combined curriculum not only enhances academic competencies but also nurtures essential social skills, preparing SIH students for a well-rounded and enriching educational journey.

Learning through Play

At SIH, we have adopted the learning-through-play and inquiry method. Play teaches children essential life skills, enriches their development, and helps them make sense of the world around them. Learning through play in our school includes:

  • Sand and water play

  • Mud play

  • Outdoor play

  • Art

  • Stories

  • Role play

  • Music and songs

  • Sensory play and much more!

All of these activities enable children to develop their physical, social, emotional, cognitive, creative, communication, and language skills. Our teachers guide children to create opportunities for learning through play, encouraging their development by helping them express themselves, solve problems, negotiate, and acquire important social skills such as taking turns and making friends.
